Book title: What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20
Summary for chap. 7
Chances are for those who are prepared. Luck might be a quite important factor to success, but those who are hard-working find luck themselves.
“Hard work and dedication are key to tempting luck your way.”(pg. 122) While some people might think that there’s no such thing as luck, a better way to infer this could be that luck is only for those who are willing to make effort, and only those who work hard know how to make use of their luck. “Lucky people take advantage of chance occurrences that come their way.”(pg. 122) Instead of just sitting there and waiting for things to come, lucky people observe and pay attention to what’s happening around them, create a better path for themselves, and grab any chances they see at any moment.
Lucky people also tend to be extraverted. They make eye contact and smile more frequently, think positively and are more optimistic. Therefore, they can easily attract good things towards them. Most important of all, they believe in themselves. They are more open-minded and look at the brighter side of a bad situation.
“Making one’s own luck is ultimately about turning bad situations around and making good situations much better.”(pg. 135) It’s alright to stop and look around sometimes or maybe even stumble while on your way to the goal. Just never stop fighting and also observe the environment around you with a smile. When you are finally able to connect the dots, you have already created the dreamland you once wished for.
